Flash 8 tutorial to create blur effect or motion effect
While watching cartoons or certain ads, I always wondered, how do they give this blur effects to depict characters moving fast. I still don't know how they do, but getting the same effect in flash 8 is really simple.
Check this below demonstration to get a better idea on what I am talking about.
Similar to Photoshop and Fireworks, Flash 8 has this new "effects" feature, which includes, drop shadow, blur, glow, bevel, gradient glow and garient bevel effects.
Here in this tutorial, we will be covering blur effect.
One very important thing is, these effects can be applied only on text, movieclips and buttons.
To begin with, get your movieclip / button from the library to the work area or create the same.
Now select your symbol, and open Filters panel, if filters panel is not open, under main menu bar click on Windows > Properties > Filters.
You will now see "+" and "-" sign in the filters panel.
Click on the "+" sign, and select blur,
Blur X and Blur Y dropdown menu might be locked. So when these two are locked, on increasing blur intensity for either of it (Blur X / Blur Y), both will increase to the same amount.
If you are trying to use this blur effect to depict fastly moving object, you will have to give only Blur X / Blur Y for horizontal / verticle movement respectively.
Out here, in the above example, I am moving object (dog) from left to right, which is horizontal motion. Hence I have mainly given Blur X and a little of Blur Y.
Filter panel for the above example looks something like the one shown below.
As you can see I have also given a little bit of drop shadow for 3D effect.
If you want to make the object look like it is really moving fast, then you will have to increase the blur effect. Mainly it is all about playing with these effects to get exactly what you want.
